The Solomon Islands Telekom Workers Union has issued a 28-day strike notice to management, citing dissatisfaction with the organization's planned restructure exercise.
The new structure requires employees to re-apply for their current positions.
President of the worker's Union Noel Nelu says the strike notice has been effective since Wednesday last week.
Mr Nelu says the notice demands the removal of the Head of Support Services and the Chief Financial Officer, and for the two positions to be localized.
The notice calls for the restructure to be carried out in “the best way possible and in a way that is beneficial to both the employees and the organization.”
The notice also demands that management hold off advertising for new people outside of the organization until agreement is reached on the new structure.
The notice requests that management hold continuous dialogue with the Union to resolve the impasse.
Meanwhile, the Union President says their first meeting with the management was held today and discussions will continue this week.
