Taiwan Donates $10m to Education

The Taiwan Embassy has donated $10 million to the Ministry for Education and Human Resources.

The $10 million donation was officially announced by the Taiwan Ambassador, HE George Chen during the official handing over of the Taiwan Scholarship.

Ambassador George Chen stated that the support was so the government will be able to provide more opportunity for Solomon Island students planning to study abroad.

It was also estimated that 500-600 students will be able to benefit from the donation provided.

"Students who are awarded a scholarship will come back to serve the Solomon Islands after finishing their degrees or training overseas to contribute to the development, therefore, this is a great investment," Ambassador Chen stated.

Ambassador Chen also stated that with the good relationship between Taiwan and the Solomon Islands, Taiwan will continue to be involved in the education sector, especially that of the tertiary level, "to cultivate more young talents in the coming years."

In reply, the Minister for Education, Hon. Job Tausinga thanked the Taiwan Government and added that the $10 million assistance will help settle outstanding fees and other needs to both national and overseas tertiary institutions.

Hon. Tausinga assured that the funds will be acquitted in a manner that is acceptable as according to their financial systems and procedures.
