There is need for media cooperation in Solomon Islands, the Media Association of Solomon Islands re-elected President, John Lamani said.
Speaking at the MASI Annual General Meeting yesterday, Mr. Lamani said media in the Solomons needs to be more proactive.He also stressed on the need for the MASI members to be proactive in raising funds.
"Money has been an ongoing problem for the association and for the first time, we have funds so we need to build on that," Mr. Lamani said.
He said compared to other years, the media association has for the first time accomplished so many things.
"I acknowledge the support of the former Executive members who really worked together towards the progress of the association," Mr. Lamani said.
He said the best achievement for the outgoing executive was the "highly commended" Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) Convention that attracted media personnels from around the region.
Mr. Lamani acknowledged the financial support from the previous government, which helped make the PINA convention "the best ever".
Meanwhile, a new MASI executive was elected yesterday.
Mr. Lamani retained the presidency position unopposed, with a good blend of media representatives in his new executive.
The publisher of Solomon Star said one main task for the new executive is to acquire land to build MASI's own office building.
"I thank the former executive for their cooperation and appreciate the money that is made available to help in securing land for the MASI office," he said.
The new executive will be office bearers for the next two years.
