Solomons Government Grants Fund to Assist Earthquake and Tsunami Victims

A total sum of fifteen million dollars in aid money has been granted by the CNURA government for the victims of last year's April 2nd earthquake and tsunami.

Deputy Prime Minister, Fred Fono, revealed in a statement that the funding was in honor and reassurance of the government's commitment to the provincial governments and the devastated people of the two provinces.

He said that funds to the affected areas were invariably allocated to a number of central locations in affected areas throughout the two regions.

Mr. Fono said that the allocations were based on an official report by the Solomon Islands Red Cross, outlining the severity of damage caused to each respective area.

He added that upon the initial distribution of funds, the implementation of the rehabilitation programmes will be undertaken.

Mr. Fono said that the programmes will be undertaken by certain Constituency Rehabilitation Committees, active within the different wards of the two regions.

All rehabilitation endeavors for the benefit of sub-constituencies within the vicinity of each ward will be the responsibility of the respective Constituency Rehabilitation Programmes.
