The Solomon Islands Opposition leader, Hon. Derek Sikua has confirmed submitting a notice of a Motion of No-Confidence against Prime Minister, Hon. Gordon Darcy Lilo.
The submission was made to the Clerk to Parliament last Thursday.Dr Sikua says the proposed motion was a collective decision by the Member in the Opposition and the Independent Group in Parliament after watching with grave concern some of the decisions and actions of the Prime Minister since his election into office last November.
He says the Opposition is mandated by the Solomon Islands Constitution to scrutinize government actions and hold the Prime Minister accountable to the people and the government of Solomon Islands.
Dr Sikua says the proper way to deal with it is through parliament and he is pleased to say that he has the full support of the members of the Opposition and the Independent Group in moving a motion of no-confidence at the upcoming Parliament meeting.
He says the motion is about ensuring good governance, transparency and accountability which the current Prime Minister has failed miserably to achieve in his very short term in power.
The Opposition leader says the corruption allegations against the Prime Minister are not at all a secret to the public as he had already exposed most of them in the media.
Dr Sikua says the motion has nothing to do with being hungry for power and he calls on fellow Solomon Islanders, overseas friends and business houses to keep calm as democratic process takes its course in Parliament.
He says the Prime Minister is more concerned about advancing his own interests rather than the interests of the nation and therefore he does not deserve one more day in office.
