Marine Police helped the Solomon Islands Red Cross distribute 11 water tanks from Honiara to Malu'u in Malaita and Marasa on the Weather Coast during the past week.
The effort was part of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force and RAMSI PPF's commitment to assist in National Disaster management response and relief operations since major flooding earlier this year.Commissioner Peter Marshall said the project was part of ongoing efforts to help with evacuations, the transport and distribution of relief supplies to various affected areas.
"Two Police PPF vessels left Point Cruz wharf on Saturday morning bound for Malu'u at Malaita, with four 3000-litre water tanks, two 1000-litre water tanks and one 5000-litre water tank aboard," he said.
"This follows an earlier delivery to Marasa last Tuesday when the Police Marine Vessel Jackpot arrived on the Weather Coast with four 3000 litre water tanks, cement PVC pipes and tap fittings on board.
"Villagers have been busy installing the donated equipment to ensure safe drinking water for local people."
Commissioner Marshall said the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force was happy to contribute transport support to ensure the water tanks acquired by the Red Cross since the floods were put to good use where they are most needed.
"This is important work by the Solomon Islands Red Cross and will help these affected communities to access and store safe drinking water supplies over the longer term," he said.
