Solomon Islands would consider a request from neighboring Vanuatu for nurses.
Prime Minister Danny Philip gave the assurance to his Vanuatu counterpart during a courtesy call in Honiara yesterday.The visiting Vanuatu Prime Minister, Sato Kilman, is in Honiara to attend the special Melanesian Spearhead Group, MSG, one-day meeting, which the Solomon Islands Government hosted yesterday.
In their discussion, Prime Minister Kilman said Vanuatu is short of nurses and request Solomon Islands to consider providing his country extra nurses.
He also wants the national airline, Solomon Airlines, to resume its weekly flight to Santo.
Prime Minister Kilman said the need for more nurses was first raised about a year ago, but there's been no follow up.
Prime Minister Kilman said the other issue he wanted to pursue is do with the weekly flight that Solomon Airlines used to fly between Honiara and Santo, which has become Vanuatu's commercial hub.
Mr Philip assured his Vanuatu counterpart that the issue of a joint service between Honiara and Santo would also be looked into.
Prime Minister Philip also thanked Prime Minister Kilman "for finding time among your busy schedule to attend the MSG Traditional Reconciliation Ceremony."
Vanuatu handed over the Chairmanship of the MSG to Fiji yesterday after the one-day meeting.
