Low Key Event for Independence Day Celebrations

It was a low key event as Solomon Islanders celebrated its 32nd Independence Anniversary at the Lawson Tama Stadium.

With the theme "Making Right Decisions," caretaker Prime Minister, Dr Derek Sikua, used the opportunity to call on all Solomon Islanders to look for leaders that would "put the interest of the country first and not their own."

Dr Sikua said that the upcoming general elections would be crucial to the future of the country. "Solomon Islands are still going through a post conflict reconstruction phase so therefore we need good leaders," said Dr Sikua.

Despite the heat, hundreds of Solomon Islanders flocked Lawson Tama Stadium to witness the colorful parade and cultural performances, displaying the diversity of the country.
