The children of Aenataerau Community, near Malu'u in North Malaita, were pleased to receive reading books, learning materials and sporting goods generously provided by the Australian High Commission and the Participating Police Force (PPF) Guadalcanal Beach Resort (GBR) Social Club.
The thirty or so young children who attend Earthworms Kindergarten will be able to practice reading and writing their ABCs using books, educational posters, chalk, crayons, finger paints, paper and cardboard presented to the school by Ms Aleks Larsen, Second Secretary of the Australian High Commission.The 100 or so children from the community and nearby villages will also no doubt soon be challenging each other to soccer, netball and volleyball competitions with sporting goods presented by the PPF GBR Social Club.
Recently, the Aenataerau Community opened their village, and their hearts, to three visitors from the Australian High Commission and PPF GBR Social Club.
The community welcomed the visitors into their home, sharing the beauty of their village and way of life with them. The short hike to the waterfall, one of the community water sources, was a particular highlight.
The community also shared many of the challenges of rural life that are common to many villages throughout Solomon Islands. These included sanitation issues, power supply, opportunities for income generation activities, and the need for more education and sporting resources.
Heartfelt thanks to the community for their warm hospitality and to RAMSI for its kind assistance in transporting the visitors and gifts to the village.
