Kokohale FC, Crowned Western Soccer Champions

Kokohale FC has been crowned champions of the Western Province 2008 soccer championship after beating Gizo Lagoon FC in the grand final clash on Monday.

After a stunning display of soccer both teams pushed the game to the last straw. The game went into extra time after the full 90 minutes.

Lagoon FC, who scored two quick goals in the first half, could have lifted the cup had it not been for two impressive goals late in the second half. Kokohale came in with a late equalizer in the 88 min from Godwin Bebeu.

The winning goal of Kokohale came in the last half of the extra time when freshman Zealot Robson hammered in from the edge of the penalty area Kokohale's third goal and sealed off their
Victory (3-2).

An elated coach of Kokohale, Mr. Hugh Maezama, said that the team will leave Western Province early next week to prepare for the National Club Championship later this month in Honiara.

He said he will still banked on his original team from last year's tournament although he may field few of his new players, including the like's of Leson Bisili (a national rep. U23) and the soccer hot twins, Tanavoqa Robert and Zaelot Robert.

The current available position or ranking of the teams in the tournament are:

1st - Kokohale FC/Munda
2nd - lagoon FC/Gizo
3rd - Gossa FC/Gizo
4th - Buri FC/Rannonga

A total of fifteen teams took part in the 2 weeks tournament in Gizo.
