Government Revenue Hits SBD$1 Billion

The Ministry of Finance and Treasury has achieved a historical earning of more than $1 billion Solomon Islands dollar in revenue for 2010.

In a press conference, Minister of Finance Gordon Darcy Lilo says "this is a significant milestone in the history of revenue administration in the country."

The Finance Minister attributed the achievement to the work done by the inland revenue division within the ministry.

He says the achievement is also due to the excellent work of the tax audit department.

Finance Minister Lilo says with the $1 billion dollar revenue achievement, the government will be able to provide better services to the people as well as invest in productive activities to generate further wealth, employment opportunities and general improvement in the welfare of the country.

Mr Lilo says with this huge development, our country must now come up with a responsible fiscal policy to manage the country's wealth.
