Calls for Emergency Fund

The Solomon Islands Minister for Environment, Hon. Moffat Fugui, says the country will have to change its attitude towards preparing for any future Disasters.

In the recent Parliament siting, Hon. Fugui said that Government need to see the importance of a budget allocation for an emergency standby fund for Disaster Response.

Fugui said the Government needs an approximate of six to seven million dollars to be ready to assist people affected by cyclones, earthquakes, droughts or floods.

For such a country like Solomon Islands, where it remains vulnerable to disasters, at any one time the country needs that money to be available should any Disaster happen.

He also revealed that the country does not have that so it needs to make allocations in the budgetary support to ensure that money will be ready for any future disaster response.
