A joint police operation between Naha CID, Central CID and National Investigations has led to the arrest of a man allegedly responsible for the burglary at the Taiwanese Embassy Office on 5 January 2008.
A 23-year-old man from Falau Village in North East Malaita was charged with office break-in on February 15 2008 by Detectives at Central CID.The investigation was very successful as nearly all of the stolen property was recovered.
The Third Secretary of the Taiwanese Embassy, Johnny Lin, on Monday met with the Police Commander of Honiara City, Superintendent Phillip Kaukui, and officers from Central CID to thank them for their dedicated work on this investigation.
Superintendent Kaukui said that the cooperation between the Embassy and the police was outstanding and he thanked the officers involved in the investigation for a job well done.
"This investigation is a great example of the dedication the Solomon Islands Police Force has to solving crime. Five police officers have spent over one month working very hard to solve this crime and I'm pleased to see that not only was the offender arrested, but the stolen property was also recovered" he said.
Superintendent Kaukui also thanked members of the public that contacted police with information about this crime.
"The officers investigating this case received some information from the public and that was very pleasing. The successful arrest and subsequent recovery of property shows what police can achieve when they work together with the public," he said.
The 23-year-old man is remanded in custody and is expected to appear in the Honiara Magistrates court early next month.
